FMP day 3

Today I have looked into lots of different directors and found the one I am going to use (David Cronenberg) for my final book. I am going to include illustration and type. The illustrations are going to be scenes from all of the films Cronenberg has used.

HND and UAL.

Yesterday I attended a talk on HND (Higher National Diploma) and UAL (University of Arts London)
I found them both very interesting and helpful. The HND offers an Illustration and Graphic Design courses which i am mostly interested in they also offer Photography and Fine art. With the HND you can do the fist 2 years and you have the choice to do an extension BA (Hons) year.
The tutor for the HND seems good and the course offers good facilities. I am interested in the HND however if I would like to move away not stay in canterbury.
The UAL offers Graphic Design, Illustration as well and the Universities are in Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon.

Good and Bad Website Design

Here is an example of bad web design

The background is terrible it is built from cloud tiles.
The type is all odd sizes and on top of that it is moving and flashing.
Their is no colour scheme, it is all disgusting colours that don't match.

This website is also terrible it it far too busy and it's a headache to look at the prices of the laptop are overlapping each other so it is hard to read some parts.
The price list on the site is far too complecated and jumbled it needs to be separated into a few pages.

This Site doesn't look terrible however the content is very rubbish and their is little of it.
Here are some screen shots from Flatspot. I like the how clean this site looks and I like the layout of the pictures and the columns

Alex Steinweiss

I found out about Alex Steinweiss when reading the Eye magazine, I found out that he was the first record cover designer. In the Eye magazine he quotes 'I got this idea that the way they were selling these albums was ridiculous. The covers were just brown, tan or green paper. I said, "Who the hell's going to buy this stuff? There's no push to it. There's no attractiveness. There's no sales appeal." So I told them I'd like to start to designing covers.
I like the third cover best because he has made the hands black and white. I think he has done this to make the harmonica stand out.

Brighton Trip

Here are some Graffiti pieces I found in Brighton.

Brighton Trip

All these pictures are from the Brighton Art Fair. I viewed many different styles of art and received some great inspiration. There was a great vary of styles there from Graphic design to abstract painting. One of my favourite pieces of work is portrait, it looked like it was painted with a squeegee and it had some great mark making qualities.

Brick Lane

Apart from the D&AD we had a chance to look around brick lane, it was great to see all of the unique shops, I went into Rough Trade Records but i could only afford one vinyl.

We also got the chance to look around some of the famous Graffiti spots Where we saw some Banksy and Shepard Fairy pieces.
My favourite piece of street art there was a painting of a bird by ROA, i think the size was the most impressive part of it.
